A tragic mass pile-up involving around 40 vehicles on the highway near Würzburg claimed the lives of two people and left 31 others injured, with four of them seriously hurt. The accidents occurred on a Sunday afternoon in heavy rain, leading to a total of three accidents in a row.

The first accident was a rear-end collision involving multiple vehicles, which took place around 4 p.m. This was followed by another accident about 100 meters away, resulting in three vehicles catching fire. A third accident happened about half an hour later, with several vehicles once again being involved. The scene was chaotic, and rescue workers from the police, fire brigade, and Red Cross rushed to provide aid.

The Bavarian Red Cross reported that a significant number of rescue workers were on duty, with three rescue helicopters landing on the highway. Aid organizations provided support to around 30 uninjured individuals involved in the accidents, while a care center was set up for emergency services to offer post-deployment care.

In other news, there were reports of a child being killed by a 150-kilogram boulder in Baden-Württemberg. Additionally, after an attack on a concert hall near Moscow, allies of Putin called for the reintroduction of the death penalty. A migration researcher warned of a potential unprecedented wave of refugees if Putin were to win.
