England’s all-rounder Ben Stokes has ruled himself out of the defense of the Twenty20 World Cup title in June. In a statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board, he stated that he hopes this sacrifice will enable him to focus on being the all-rounder he aspires to be for the foreseeable future. Despite delaying knee surgery to aid England in the Cricket World Cup last October, Stokes has only recently started regaining his bowling fitness.

In recent years, Stokes has played a crucial role in England’s victories, including the 2022 final against Pakistan. However, he has been battling with a knee injury that has affected his bowling performance. As a result, he opted out of participating in the IPL and T20 World Cup to prioritize his recovery and build up his bowling fitness. His goal now is to become a full-time all-rounder in all formats of cricket.

Stokes announced that he would be playing for Durham in the County Championship before the start of the upcoming test summer. He expressed his commitment to playing for Durham and focusing on building up his skills as an all-rounder. The T20 World Cup, which takes place in the West Indies and United States, begins on June 1st. Stokes is hopeful that this decision will allow him to return to full strength and continue contributing to the England team in future tournaments.
