On April 18, during the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the United States secured a spot on the podium with Chromatic BF and rider Jill Humphrey. However, tragedy struck shortly after their victory when Chromatic BF unexpectedly collapsed and died in the stabling area.
The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) made the announcement of Chromatic BF’s death, who was a 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by breeder KC Branscomb and Branscomb Farms LLC. Immediately following his collapse, U.S. Equestrian veterinary staff and FEI veterinarians attended to him, but despite their best efforts to resuscitate him, he could not be revived.
Prior to his sudden demise, Chromatic BF had finished third in the second round of the jumping competition earlier that evening. Alongside other top teams from Sweden and Brazil, he landed on the podium with Jill Humphrey for an impressive time of 48.36 seconds in a seven-horse jump-off.
Despite finishing 12th on Wednesday and being placed fifth overall in the standings at the time of his death, Samples have already been taken from Chromatic BF according to FEI veterinary regulations, and a full postmortem will be conducted in line with FEI protocols. The U.S Equestrian Federation expressed its deepest condolences to all those connected to Chromatic BF including Jill Humphrey, KC Branscomb, Branscomb Farm LLC, groom Pepe Rodriguez among others
