Aubreigh Heck, a senior student at Kansas Wesleyan University, has been invited to participate in a breakout session at the Kansas Collegiate Media state convention on April 22 at Wichita State University. The session will focus on the importance of covering local sports, particularly high school sports, and how some of the best and most rewarding sports journalism is carried out at the local level.

As editor-in-chief of KWU Student Media and with a double major in Communications and Public Relations, Heck brings a unique perspective to the panel discussion. During her time covering high school sports in Hutchinson and Salina, she has faced challenges as a woman in the male-dominated field of sports journalism.

Heck will share her insights on covering sports as a woman and discuss these challenges with other panelists joining her in the session. Scott Paske from the Kansas State High School Activities Association and formerly of the Wichita Eagle, Charles Chaney from The El Dorado Times-Gazette, and Joel Muhs from the McPherson Sentinel will also provide their perspectives on the importance and challenges of covering local sports in journalism. Together, they will provide a comprehensive view of this important topic.
