The MSL project concluded that the bright object on the ground is harmless, allowing the team to proceed with the highly anticipated first sample manipulation activities. These activities are complex, requiring careful planning and execution. In order to ensure the success of these activities, any “opportunistic science” was excluded from the Sol 64 plan. Instead, the science team focused on planning for future sols.

Working closely with the long-term planning team, I assisted in determining the best time to schedule a ChemCam decontamination (heating) activity. This task should ideally occur weekly, but plans are subject to change in the future. Sol 66 may be the most suitable time for this task, but further evaluation is needed before a final decision can be made.
