The US Soccer Federation and the Mexican Football Federation have withdrawn their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Instead, they have decided to focus on a bid for the 2031 edition of the tournament with the goal of equal investment as the Men’s tournament to fully maximize the commercial potential of the women’s tournament.

As a result of this withdrawal, only two bids remain to host the 2027 tournament – one from Brazilian Football Confederation and a joint bid from Royal Belgian Football Association, Royal Netherlands Football Association, and German Football Association. The winning bid will be announced at the 74th FIFA Congress in May.

Cindy Parlow Cone, President of US Soccer expressed that hosting a World Cup tournament is a huge undertaking and having additional time to prepare will maximize its impact globally. The shift in bidding will enable a record-breaking Women’s World Cup in 2031 to help grow and raise the level of women’s football both domestically and internationally. Despite this change in plans, there will still be a congested calendar of international soccer competition in the United States in coming years. The FIFA Club World Cup will take place in 2025, FIFA Men’s World Cup will be hosted by Mexico and Canada in 2026 and Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.

Ivar Sisniega, President of Mexican Football Federation expressed confidence that with their experience gained from co-hosting men’s World Cup in 2026 they will provide best infrastructure and enthusiastic fan base for women’s World cup in 2031 contributing to growth of women’s football.
