The City Council has recently approved funding for a summer youth sports program in partnership with Revolutionary Sports, a Twin Cities-based organization. The program is heavily subsidized by the city and will cost roughly $1,100 to offer affordable four-week sessions for kids ages 3 to 10. Residents will pay under $50 while non-residents will pay just under $60 to participate.

The unanimous vote to approve the funding reflects the council’s commitment to providing affordable sports programs for the community. Osseo City Council member Ashlee Mueller expressed her support for the program, noting that similar programs in other cities cost significantly more. She sees it as a valuable asset for both Osseo residents and those from surrounding areas.

Council member Mark Schulz highlighted the importance of offering affordable youth sports programs, emphasizing that the cost is minimal compared to other city programming. He stressed the need for equity in providing opportunities for young families in Osseo to participate in recreational activities.

The 2024 Osseo youth sports program will kick off in May and run through early August at Osseo’s Sipe Park on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Registration is now open for residents and non-residents alike, with all sessions taking place at Sipe Park. The program will offer a variety of sports including soccer, tennis, baseball, and basketball, providing opportunities for kids to stay active and engaged in their community.
