On Thursday, Meta announced that it is integrating its Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI, into popular social networks such as Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. This integration will be made possible through a new open source language model called Llama 3. The AI assistant will be integrated into feeds, chats, and search bars within the applications, allowing users to ask questions, generate images, and access real-time information without leaving the app.

Meta’s move comes as an attempt to surpass other companies in the AI race, including ChatGPT. The Meta AI chatbot powered by the Llama 3 model will also be available on the Meta.ai website. In a video posted on Facebook, Meta’s founder Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the company’s goal of building the most advanced AI in the world and making it accessible to everyone.

The Llama 3 model underpins the functionality of Meta AI and will soon be available on cloud computing platforms and supported by hardware services from companies like AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA. While Meta has trained its AI tool on data covering around 30 languages, it acknowledges that performance in languages other than English may not be at the same level as in English.
