On Saturday, May 11, Infobip’s “Alpha Centauri” campus in Zagreb will host Innovation Day, showcasing cutting-edge robots and creative inventions from students throughout Croatia. The event marks the culmination of an educational project by STEMI, Infobip, and A1, with the support of numerous partners. Over the past six months, more than 500 students and over a hundred teachers have worked tirelessly to create, program, and design innovative projects such as dancing robots, AI applications, and IoT programs.

The success of last year’s competition winners from Rovišće Elementary School in the “Robotics and Automated Systems” category motivated their mentor, Davorka Medvedovi, to encourage future generations of students to pursue mentorship roles. Bjelovar High School students also found success in last year’s competition, impressing their mentor Mihaela Kelava with their determination to balance school work with their demanding project. Kelava emphasized the importance of student interest and engagement in projects like these and stressed the need for a robust “pre-election campaign” to involve students successfully.

Orehovica Elementary School sixth-graders were recognized for their chatbot project last year, with their mentor Tanja Oreški expressing pride and surprise at their achievement. Oreški highlighted the importance of hard work, diligence, persistence, teamwork, and mutual respect for achieving goals. Last year’s students from Bjelovar Technical School received recognition for building their own hexapods. Their mentor Ljudevit Sakal saw this victory as a great motivation for other students to get involved in robotics and technical projects. The success of these innovative programs has not only brought recognition to the schools but has also encouraged interest and growth in the STEM field among students and communities alike.
