Fresh World is set to open a new location in Mount Vernon Square, taking over the long-empty grocery store with a planned reopening in September 2024. Building renovations are currently underway to prepare for the grand opening. This will be the company’s fifth location in Northern Virginia and third in Fairfax.

Mt. Vernon Square LLC, an affiliate of Fresh World, purchased the 70,617-square-foot property for $17.1 million on June 13, as reported by the Washington Business Journal. The shopping center where Fresh World will be located also houses other retail outlets such as Ledo Pizza, Virginia ABC, M&T Bank, and a nail salon. In preparation for the grand opening, the shopping center will undergo a complete repaving of its parking lot, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the area.

Local residents and future customers can anticipate a well-stocked international neighborhood grocer to replace the former Safeway location by early Fall 2024. Joshua Kim, the chain’s COO, revealed that two more vacant spaces are expected to be leased by the end of the year, with one of them possibly being a Korean restaurant. Excitement is building for Fresh World’s arrival in Mount Vernon Square, bringing new life to the community with its diverse grocery offerings.
