The Alaska Songbird Institute is excited to announce that it is currently accepting applications for the 2024 North for Science! Expedition, a unique opportunity for seventh and eighth-grade students who are passionate about science. This expedition will take place from June 7-14 along the Dalton Highway corridor and offers an unparalleled experience to explore subarctic and arctic ecosystems alongside scientists and education professionals.

The program is designed to engage students in outdoor experiences and encourage them to develop basic camping skills, teamwork, and participate in field science and research. Students will have the chance to camp near Coldfoot and Galbraith Lake, visit science study sites in the area, and learn from experts in the field. Participants are expected to be energetic, flexible team members who are willing to fully immerse themselves in the outdoor experience.

The North for Science! Expedition is an active science education program that requires participants to work hard and be willing to adapt to different weather and bug conditions. While there is no program fee, students are responsible for covering their travel expenses to and from Fairbanks, accommodations, and any additional expenses for out-of-town participants.

This program is offered in collaboration with the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service. If you are interested in participating, be sure to submit your application by April 13th and visit the website for more information on how to apply.

This expedition offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students who are passionate about science to learn from experts in the field while exploring some of Alaska’s most stunning landscapes. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity – apply now!
