The Tamil Nadu Science Forum recently organized a free lecture on the evolution of the universe based on the standard model theory. The lecture, held at the Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram, focused on how particles such as quarks (protons and neutrons) and leptons (electrons) make up all known matter. Prafulla Kumar Behera, a physics professor from IIT-M, was the guest speaker at the event. He discussed Peter W Higgs’ theoretical discovery and its impact on shaping the future of high energy physics and technological advancements in building accelerators like large hadron colliders and detectors like ATLAS that can identify particle properties.

In addition to this lecture, the science forum has also published several articles in recent times. One article discusses what aspiring lecturers can expect after the KSET 2024 results are announced. Another article covers the KSET results declared by KEA, including information on qualifying marks, eligibility certificates for Assistant Professor positions, and more. There is also an article highlighting Vellore Institute of Technology’s MSc in Data Science program. This program bridges skill gaps, offers diverse career opportunities and provides online upskilling with expert faculty.

Despite the heatwave in April, special events at Kolkata’s Science City and BITM attracted record footfall. BITM’s successful programs and student interest contributed to the increased visitors while Science City’s AC galleries and the Voyager movie viewing experience were popular among crowds. This shows that despite challenging weather conditions, there is continued interest in science and education among people of all ages.
