The latest edition of the “Best High Schools” ranking by U.S. News and World Report was released on Tuesday, showcasing several San Diego-area schools making it onto the list. Canyon Crest Academy, located in the San Dieguito Union High School District, was the highest ranked school in the region, coming in at No. 15 in California and No. 140 nationwide. Right behind were The Preuss School UCSD and Del Norte High School, ranking at No. 2 and No. 3 in the county respectively.

A total of ten public high schools in San Diego made it onto the complete list, including Westview High School, Mt. Everest Academy, Scripps Ranch High School, La Jolla High School, Sage Creek High School, River Valley Charter, and Del Lago Academy – Campus of Applied Science. U.S. News and World Report partners with a nonprofit research firm, RTI International, to rank nearly 25,000 high schools across the country. Schools are evaluated based on factors like graduation rates, standardized testing outcomes, and performance on college-level exams. The rankings are determined by weighted scores in these categories, with ranks assigned based on the overall score.
