The recent surge in Mpox cases in Mecklenburg County is a cause for concern, according to Dr. Raynard Washington, the county health director. In just the past few months, there have been around 16 to 17 cases of Mpox reported, with over 120 exposures linked to those cases. This rise in cases has been largely attributed to the spread of the virus through close contact with individuals who have previously contracted it.

During an interview on WCNC’s Flashpoint, Dr. Washington emphasized that while many of the recent cases involving children were isolated incidents, it is still important for anyone experiencing symptoms such as a rash or lesion to seek medical attention promptly. This is because Mpox can be contagious and can easily spread from person to person.

The recent increase in Mpox cases highlights the importance of staying informed about contagious diseases and taking necessary precautions to prevent their spread. It is essential to practice good hygiene habits such as washing your hands frequently and covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing. Additionally, if you have come into contact with someone who has tested positive for Mpox or has exhibited symptoms, it is recommended that you seek medical attention and self-isolate until cleared by a healthcare professional.
