President Abbas has stated that he is reconsidering relations with the US after Washington rejected a resolution recognizing Palestine as a full member of the UN. He accused the US of supporting the occupation and providing Israel with weapons and money to kill children and destroy homes, while opposing Palestine in international forums.

The Palestinian leader emphasized that Palestine would consider bilateral relations with the US to protect its interests, cause, and rights. He accused the US of violating international law, abandoning promises related to the two-state solution, and failing to achieve peace in the region.

Following the US veto of a draft resolution in the UN Security Council, President Abbas criticized the move as unjust, immoral, and unjustified. The US stated that it supports the two-state solution but does not believe that recognition should come from a peace agreement with Israel; instead, it believes that recognition should be granted through other means.

In response to ongoing tensions with the US, President Abbas indicated that Palestine severed all relations with the US in January 2020 after rejecting a peace plan proposed by then-US President Donald Trump. Despite some efforts to restore relations under President Joe Biden, Palestinian officials remain skeptical and emphasize the need for more significant steps to restore peace in the region.

Overall, while there are ongoing disagreements between Palestine and the US over issues such as recognition of Palestine as a full member of the UN and broader issues related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, President Abbas continues to advocate for Palestinian rights and interests in face of US opposition.
