In recent developments, the Russian Interior Ministry has added Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to a list of individuals under a search and arrest warrant. Zelensky, born in 1978 in Krivoi Rog, Dnipropetrovsk region in Ukraine, is wanted under an unspecified article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This move follows a trend of Russian authorities targeting officials of the Ukrainian government since the start of the Ukrainian war.

Along with Zelensky, other high-ranking Ukrainian officials, including Alexander Litvinenko, head of the National Security and Defense Council, and former president Petro Poroshenko, have also been included on the list. The inclusion of these individuals comes as a response to their positions and actions during their respective mandates, which were deemed contrary to Russian interests.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has condemned Zelensky’s inclusion on the list as an act of desperation by Russia’s state propaganda machine. They pointed out that Putin has an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against him for kidnapping and deporting children from Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine. The ICC considers this action to be a more legitimate and serious legal action compared to Russia’s accusations against Zelensky.

Russia and Ukraine continue to engage in escalating tensions on the international stage, using legal and political tactics to assert their interests and opinions. It remains uncertain how these developments will impact relations between the two neighboring countries.
