In March, there were significant job gains across various industries, with the largest increases seen in health care, leisure and hospitality, construction, retail trade, other services, and social assistance. On the other hand, some major industries such as mining, manufacturing, transportation, and financial activities showed little to no change in employment numbers during the month.

Among different worker groups, the unemployment rate for Black Americans rose to 6.4% in March while rates for Hispanics and Asian Americans decreased. However, the jobless rates for teenagers, adult women, White Americans and adult men remained relatively stable over the month. Moreover, the number of long-term unemployed workers – those without a job for 27 weeks or more – stayed mostly unchanged in March and made up almost 20% of the total unemployed population.
