A Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training will be held in Salida on Friday, April 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This training, offered in the Touber Building’s Shavano Room at 448 East First Street, is provided by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. The goal of MHFA is to make Mental Health First Aid as common as CPR by educating participants on how to identify, understand, and appropriately respond to mental health issues.

The Youth MHFA training on April 19 is free and is designed to teach participants how to recognize, understand, and address signs of mental health and substance use challenges in children and adolescents aged 12 to 18. Attendees will learn about risk factors and warning signs for mental health challenges, as well as information on depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and substance use. A five-step action plan will be provided to help individuals who may be developing mental health or substance use challenges, along with access to evidence-based resources for assistance.
