In the Sicani Internal Area of Sicily, Engineering, a company specializing in digital processes for businesses and public administrations, has launched a project to provide digital training to citizens. This initiative is in line with the European Framework for Digital Competence (DigComp) to ensure that individuals have the necessary skills for a good quality of life, participation in society, and competitiveness in the job market.

Beginning on February 8, 2024, over 49,000 residents from the 12 municipalities in the province of Agrigento will have access to an e-learning platform provided by Engineering. The platform offers content focused on acquiring digital skills to empower the community.

Mauro Frassetto, Digital Experience Executive Director at Engineering, emphasized the importance of spreading digital culture and collaborating with local authorities to bring this project to fruition. He highlighted that essential digital knowledge is crucial in today’s rapidly evolving world.

Local mayors have also emphasized the significance of training for the future. Mayor Matteo Ruvolo of Ribera municipality highlighted how digital skills are vital in personal lives, professional adaptability, and career advancement.

The collaboration between Engineering and local authorities emphasizes the importance of investing in human capital development for Sicily’s economic and social growth. With Eurostat data showing Sicilians at a low level of digital competence compared to other Italian regions, Engineering’s project aims to bridge this gap and empower Sicilian citizens with essential skills.

The training program offered by Engineering consists of multimedia modules catering to individuals with basic or intermediate knowledge of digital skills. Topics covered include search engines, social media, digital citizenship, artificial intelligence, online content management, data security, and cyberbullying. Participants will need to register on the DigiComp AI Terre Sicani portal and meet certain criteria to access the modules and certification.
