The cost of health care continues to be a struggle for many working-age Americans. In an effort to address this issue, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced that it is sending refunds to consumers who were misled by Benefytt Technologies into purchasing fake health plans. The FTC has accused Benefytt of using fraudulent websites and aggressive marketing tactics to deceive customers into believing they were purchasing comprehensive health insurance or an Obamacare plan.

However, these policies offered little coverage and customers often found themselves billed for additional expenses they did not agree to. This led to many customers paying high monthly fees for insurance that did not adequately protect them, as well as significant medical bills due to insufficient coverage.

In response to these deceptive practices, the FTC filed a complaint against Benefytt, which led to a settlement in which the company agreed to pay $100 million in refunds to affected customers. In addition, former CEO Gavin Southwell and former Vice President Amy Brady were banned from selling or marketing any health care-related products as part of the settlement.

The FTC is currently sending refund checks to 463,629 customers who paid Benefytt $1,000 or more between 2017 and 2022. Affected customers do not need to file a claim in order to receive their refund checks, which will be mailed automatically within the next two weeks. Once received, customers should cash or deposit their checks promptly before they expire after 90 days.

Consumers can contact Epiq Systems at (888) 574-3126 for more information on the refund process and how they can use their funds wisely for their healthcare needs.
