Nicole Hernandez, an undergraduate student studying biochemistry at the University of Florida, had the opportunity to virtually shadow healthcare professionals through the Medi-Gators shadowing program. This experience strengthened her resolve to continue on the pre-med track and gave her valuable insights into the healthcare field.

Throughout her virtual shadowing experience, Hernandez was impressed by how teams work together and develop essential communication skills for success. She found it eye-opening to see how different healthcare professionals collaborate to provide quality care to their patients.

Hernandez is set to graduate in May 2024 and plans to apply to medical school after taking a gap year. As a member of the Medi-Gators events committee and student ambassador, she was actively involved in the program and gained valuable exposure and experiences in the healthcare field. Through this program, she was able to navigate the challenging career options available in healthcare and gain a better understanding of the different paths she can take in her pursuit of a medical career.
