Despite Russian attempts to penetrate the defenses of Chasiv Yar, the heavily fortified town remains under the control of the Ukrainian Army, according to Oleksandr Sersky, commander of Ukrainian forces in the east. The strategic location of Chasiv Yar, which is west of Bakhmut and has a pre-war population of 12,200 people, makes it crucial for Kiev.
Meanwhile, Ivan Fedorov, governor of Zaporizhya region in southern Ukraine, reported that Russia fired five missiles at Zaporizhya city on June 6th. This resulted in casualties, injuries and damage to buildings and industrial facilities. The impact was devastating as residential buildings, private homes, shops and industrial facilities were severely affected. The Ukrainian Air Force issued a warning about ballistic missiles in the region controlled by Russia as Moscow continues to increase its use of difficult-to-intercept ballistic missiles.
In addition to the attacks on Zaporizhya and Kharkiv where civilians were killed and injured respectively; Russian forces continue their slow advance in eastern Ukraine with Ukrainian forces facing challenges due to a shortage of artillery shells. Pending approval from Congress, US aid remains unavailable to support Ukrainian defense efforts against Russian aggression.
