Fuchs Audio Technology has recently launched its first product in a new series of studio and sound reinforcement gear, the FTDI-1. The company is also working on developing a microphone preamp and other studio and professional sound products.

The founder of Fuchs Audio Technology is Andy, who has over 40 years of experience as a musician and in servicing guitar and bass amps for clients ranging from Carlos Santana to Jimmy Herring and jazz legends like Dave Stryker and Vic Juris. The company boasts an impressive list of reviews and endorsements spanning two decades.

The Fuchs FTDI stands out among the numerous options for tube DI units available on the market by combining tube warmth with a compact design, making it ideal for pedalboards powered by 9-volt power. It utilizes a switch-mode power supply to increase the incoming 9 volts to 300 volts, ensuring the tube runs at proper “True High Voltage.” The unit features a 12AX7 tube and comes with selected low noise Ruby Tubes. At $599.00 MAP, it’s one of the most affordable options on the market.

The FTDI-1 includes a quarter-inch input and a buffered “through” output, as well as an Edcor transformer balanced output, all connected via Neutrik connectors. Despite its small size, it has a window that lights up to display the 12AX7 audio tube and is powered by a regulated switch-mode power supply that can work with any pedal power supply capable of delivering 500ma at 9 volts. Overall, the FTDI-1 is a small but musical piece of equipment that offers great performance at an affordable price point.
