Conservative Values under Threat: Former Rep. Ken Buck Warns of Populism’s Dangers and Urges Unity Among Conservatives

Conservative values are under threat from the rise of populism among some conservatives, according to former Colorado Representative Ken Buck. Buck, who retired from the House in March, expressed concern that his fellow conservatives have moved away from a focus on curtailing government spending to become more partisan and supportive of populist ideals.

During his nearly ten-year tenure in Congress, Buck was known for his conservatism and a strong belief in limiting government spending. However, he noted that some of his colleagues have shifted their priorities and have become more partisan, leading to actions that seem to disregard the Constitution.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Buck emphasized the need for consensus among conservatives in order to achieve success in passing legislation on Capitol Hill. Despite his conservative background, Buck was one of only three House Republicans who voted against the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in February. This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities within the conservative movement and the challenges it faces in maintaining unity.
