Meanwhile, in the realm of photography, the World Nature Photography Awards have been held annually since 2020, with a mission to promote photography while also supporting the planet by planting a tree for each entry into the competition. The latest edition of the awards featured various categories including animal portraits, plants and fungi, and different types of animal behaviors.

One of the standout winners was Tracey Lund from the United Kingdom, whose photograph of two gannets engaged in a battle for a fish in Scotland’s Shetland Islands won top honors. Lund captured this image from a boat during her holiday using a DSLR camera in waterproof housing. Despite taking over 1,800 images that day, she only had two usable ones that perfectly conveyed the incredible sight of thousands of gannets diving into the sea after locally caught fish.

Another impressive winner was Ivan Pedretti from Italy, who took home first place in the Planet Earth’s landscapes and environments category with his enchanting photo of winter in Stokksnes, Iceland. Pedretti’s image showcased the beach with black sand and the majestic mountain called Vestrahorn, highlighting the color contrast of the white mountains with the black dunes and yellow grass.

The quality of entries for this year’s awards did not go unnoticed by Adrian Dinsdale, co-founder of WNPA who expressed admiration for all submissions received for 2024 awards . He believes that photography can influence people to see
