Caleb Holt, a sophomore from Buckhorn High School in Alabama, made history by becoming the first sophomore to win the state’s 42nd Mr. Basketball award by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Not only did he secure this prestigious title, but he also received Class 6A Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive year at a recent high school basketball banquet in Montgomery.

Holt’s impressive stats for the season included averaging 20.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, three steals, and 2.4 assists, leading his team to a 23-5 record. He was named MVP of the Class 6A state tournament and helped his team win back-to-back state titles. In addition, he was honored as the Gatorade and MaxPreps Alabama Player of the Year.

Despite his success, Holt remains focused on his goals. He is ranked as the No. 3 player nationally by 247 Sports and is the top in-state player in the Class of 2026. With two years of high school remaining, he has already scored 1,798 points and has aspirations to make the U17 USA Basketball team and lead his team to more state championships, with the ultimate goal of competing for a national championship.

In terms of recruitment, Holt is a highly sought-after prospect with offers from top programs like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Houston, and Cincinnati. He has visited both Auburn and Alabama and is impressed by their coaching staff and programs but has yet to make a decision on his future. As Holt continues to excel on the court
