The United States fell to a new low in the world happiness ranking, primarily due to rising unhappiness among the nation’s young people. This marks the first year that the U.S. has not made it into the top 20 happiest countries in the World Happiness Report.

The report ranked 143 countries based on well-being and happiness, revealing that overall, young people between the ages of 15 and 24 report higher life satisfaction than older adults, except in North America. This drop in ranking is significant as last year, the U.S. was ranked as the 15th happiest country in the world.

Interestingly, in a global happiness ranking of people aged 60 and older, the United States ranks 10th. However, when it comes to happiness among people under 30, the U.S. falls to 62nd place globally. The report also indicates that in North America, young people are more likely to experience loneliness compared to older individuals.

The World Happiness Report provides global happiness rankings based on age and other factors such as income per capita and life expectancy at birth. It is worth noting that this is the first time in its history that the United States did not make it into the top 20 happiest countries on Earth due to rising unhappiness among young people who are making up an increasingly large portion of our population
