Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoán Moncada was forced to leave Tuesday’s game early after falling while trying to reach first on a ground ball at Progressive Field. In the second inning of the White Sox’s 7-5 win over the Cleveland Guardians, Moncada hit a ground ball to third. As he approached first base, he suddenly collapsed and hit the dirt hard, rolling around in significant pain as he was called out.

The severity of Moncada’s injury is still not yet known, but he is considered day-to-day after being helped off the field. This injury came after Moncada had been dealing with minor soreness in his hip and groin area in recent days, though he had been playing through it.

Moncada entered Tuesday’s game with a .270 batting average and 10 hits so far this season, his eighth with the White Sox. He hit a single in the first inning to kick off a five-run inning for the Sox. Despite the strong start, the Guardians tied the game in the fourth on RBI singles before Dominic Fletcher hit a two-RBI double in the eighth to secure the White Sox’s two-run win.

The White Sox entered Tuesday’s game with a 1-9 record after dropping four straight to start the season. Their lone win came against the Atlanta Braves, and they had lost five straight games, including a four-game sweep by the Kansas City Royals. The seven runs scored on Tuesday marked their highest-scoring game of the season.
