As the number of cases of bird flu continues to rise in eight states, the USDA has implemented new restrictions on dairy cattle to prevent the spread of the virus. During a press conference, Bernadette Albanese, the Medical Director of El Paso County Public Health, expressed her concerns about the impact of the virus on public health and food safety. She revealed that bird flu has been detected in milk samples, which is raising serious issues for consumers.

The new restrictions from the USDA require cows to be tested for Influenza A virus before crossing state lines. If a herd tests positive, owners must provide epidemiological information such as animal movement tracking. The USDA stated that immediate action is required for lactating cattle, with guidelines for other classes of cattle based on scientific factors and evolving risks.

Local residents are concerned about the potential effects of bird flu on public health. Jaden Knowles, a resident of Colorado Springs, expressed his concerns about the contagious nature of bird flu, especially among children.
