During a recent meeting with leaders of the Atlantic Council and the Hoover Institute, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal discussed the economic, political, and legal justifications for confiscating Russia’s sovereign assets and those of oligarchs. He emphasized the need for accountability and expressed plans to collaborate with experts and partners to enforce this principle. According to Shmigal, Ukraine will require approximately $500 billion – around €450 billion – to recover from the damages caused by the Russian Armed Forces during a war that has lasted for over two years. He shared this information on his official Telegram channel, urging powers and international organizations to ensure that frozen Russian assets worldwide are used to finance Ukraine’s recovery efforts.
