Luoyang, a city in northern China, recently set a new Guinness World Record with the creation of the largest standing lantern. The lantern, which measures 147 feet and 8.83 inches long, 81 feet and 5.95 inches tall, and 64 feet and 7.59 inches wide, was intricately handmade by a team of 200 artisans to resemble the city’s official flower, the peony.

The peony-shaped lantern weighs a total of 99,208 pounds and required an 88,184-pound counterweight to ensure that it remained standing securely. This impressive feat was announced by Guinness World Records, showcasing the incredible craftsmanship and dedication of the artisans involved in creating this record-breaking lantern.

The stunning display is a true testament to the artistic talent and creativity of the individuals involved in its creation. The lantern was created specifically for the 2024 Spring Festival in the Year of the Dragon at Luoyang’s Peony Pavilion.
