The Men’s Health Center’s Dr. Tra Anh Duy explains that there are several factors that can affect sperm quality. These include genetics, certain diseases, exposure to toxins, and daily lifestyle habits. Some common habits that can weaken sperm include smoking, drinking alcohol, wearing tight pants or underwear, watching too much TV, placing a laptop on the body, exercising too much or cycling regularly and being exposed to heat from cell phones, hot baths or saunas.

Research from the Aberdeen Fertility Center in Scotland has shown that alcohol and tobacco use can have harmful effects on sperm quality. Cigarette smoke contains toxins that can reduce sperm mobility and DNA damage while alcohol can also damage DNA and reduce testosterone levels.

Exposure to heat and radiation from cell phones, hot baths or saunas can also impact sperm quality. Long-term exposure to chemicals like heavy metals and processed foods can decrease sperm count and quality. Similarly, being sedentary for extended periods of time is a major contributor to poor reproductive health.

It is important to be mindful of these habits and make lifestyle changes to improve sperm health and increase fertility. Instead of engaging in these activities it is recommended to be more active by exercising regularly or taking up a sport such as cycling. Additionally, rest is crucial for reproductive health as it allows the body to recover and regenerate.

In conclusion, making positive changes in your daily lifestyle habits such as avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, wearing loose clothing instead of tight pants or underwear and reducing exposure to heat from electronic devices can significantly improve your chances of conceiving naturally with better-quality sperm.
