Andrea and Zack Sciuto had a dream of opening a bookstore in Douglas for over a year, fulfilling that dream by selling donated books from a small space off Main Street. However, after just over a year, they decided to close the shop permanently due to low foot traffic. According to Andrea, the town of Douglas is not busy enough and bookstores are not the type of place where people spend a lot of time browsing unless they are making multiple stops.
When they first opened the shop, they had around 2,400 titles, most of which were donated or purchased for a low price. The collection included rare books as well as more familiar titles and authors. The books were all 50% off their original price and were mostly in like-new or really good condition. Andrea managed the store while Zack supported them through his tree-cutting business. Initially, the store saw a lot of business but over time it began to decline.
Although they will remain in the shop for the rest of April, their plans for May are still undecided. They may have promotions for the remaining time the shop is open and donate any remaining books to local libraries. While she loved having a bookstore, Andrea prefers to focus on the happiness it brought them while they had it and remains optimistic about what the future holds for them.
