The owner of Mahomet-based business The Brush Man is set to move into larger facilities after the approval of a new development by the Mahomet City Council. Owner Dave Monahan plans to build a new flex warehouse location in east Mahomet, providing space for his business as well as build-to-suit office and commercial warehouse sites for other companies.

The nearly 10-acre site will be located on Lake of the Woods Road, and Monahan has agreed to buy the Bankco Overhead Door business located there and keep it open, preserving jobs for the current employees. The new facility will initially be 25,000 square feet for The Brush Man, with additional smaller units of around 2,000 square feet or larger if needed.

Monahan started his company in 1976 and purchased it in 2009. The Brush Man sells job-site supplies wholesale such as brooms, trash bags, and paint brushes. Involvement from real estate company Guth & Associates will assist in marketing and leasing the new spaces.

The goal of the flex space is to cater to different types of tenants, from those looking to store personal items like vintage cars to contractor-based businesses in need of office and storage space. Monahan’s struggle to find appropriate land in Mahomet was resolved by this new development, preventing him from looking into other communities. Construction is set to begin in the fall, bringing new opportunities for businesses and tenants in Mahomet.
