Dr. Taryn Murray, a dermatologist with Cleveland Clinic, warns that the main risks of press-on nails include infection, allergy, and damage to the nail unit.

One of the most significant concerns with press-on nails is their risk of infection. The moisture that gets trapped underneath the fake nails can create a damp environment where fungus and bacteria can thrive, leading to potential infections. Symptoms of an infection may include swelling, redness, tenderness around the nail, and nail discoloration.

In addition to the risk of infection, applying and removing fake nails can also cause damage to the natural nail, resulting in problems like brittle nails and breakage. There is also a possibility of experiencing an allergic reaction to the press-on nail or the glue used to secure it.
