On April 17, Mr. Dat, a 24-year-old man living in Dong Nai, was diagnosed with two torn knee ligaments by Dr. Nguyen Van Luu from the Center for Orthopedics at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. Despite initially tearing his cruciate ligament while playing soccer and being recommended surgery by a local doctor, he was hesitant and declined the procedure. However, he continued to live an active lifestyle and recently tore his anterior cruciate ligament.
Dr. Luu found that other structures like cartilage were not damaged and advised Mr. Dat to undergo reconstructive surgery for both the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments using the “all in side” technique. This endoscopic, minimally invasive method involves using autologous tendons to repair the ligaments and aims to reduce infection risks and postoperative pain. It helps patients recover faster and regain mobility sooner.
Just two days after the surgery, Mr. Dat was able to bend and stretch his knee comfortably and walk with ease. Dr. Luu predicts that the patient will be able to resume moderate exercise after 6 months and engage in light sports after 9 months. It is important for patients to follow the recommended rehabilitation plan to avoid complications and promote full recovery.
Dr. Luu emphasizes the importance of seeking prompt medical attention in cases of ligament rupture, as delays in treatment can lead to additional complications such as damage to surrounding tissues and potential long-term consequences like osteoarthritis
