MyMichigan Sault administration acknowledges the start of the nurses strike outside its medical center. However, they assure the community that inside the center, teams are working diligently with nurses from across the health system to cover for those on strike. Despite the strike, the medical center successfully delivered a baby and handled three urgent operating room cases, proving their ability to continue providing quality care to the community.

The administration believes that their proposal to the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA) is fair and reasonable, recognizing the excellent care provided by nurses in Sault. They highlight that throughout negotiations, they have made significant movements towards reaching an agreement with MNA, despite their unrealistic starting position of asking for top-scale nurses to be paid $51.30 per hour in the first year alone. In contrast, MyMichigan Sault’s offer has steadily increased over time, showing their willingness to compromise. The administration also emphasizes the benefits and incentives along with investments in systems like Epic that contribute to overall compensation packages for nurses.

Moreover, MyMichigan Sault stresses that they value and listen to their nurses by asking them to vote on contract proposals. They reiterate their commitment to providing a safe and supportive working environment for their nurses while continuing to deliver high-quality care to the community.

In summary, MyMichigan Sault’s response to the nursing strike is positive as they assure patients that quality care will be maintained despite any disruptions caused by striking workers. Additionally, they are willing to negotiate fairly with MNA but will not compromise on delivering quality patient care or creating a safe work environment for nursing staff.
