Northwestern’s business and finance division has recently announced three promotions within its staff. This division plays a critical role in advancing academic and research excellence at the University by managing resources and leveraging financial capacity to support programmatic and strategic initiatives.

Daniel Durack has been promoted to senior associate vice president for budget and planning. He has been with the Office of Budget and Planning since 2015 and has now been recognized for his expertise in steering Northwestern’s long-range planning and budget efforts. Durack serves as a trusted financial advisor to University leadership and ensures that financial resources are in line with Northwestern’s strategic priorities.

Nicole Van Laan has been promoted to assistant vice president for finance after serving as Northwestern’s controller for the past eight years. With a background in auditing at Deloitte, Van Laan will now lead key financial units such as accounting services, depository services, tax and regulatory services, and treasury. Her role will focus on driving efficient and effective financial reporting and operations for the University.

DeBorah Krueger has been promoted to executive director of finance and administration. In this newly established position, Krueger will serve as the chief of staff to Amanda Distel, vice president and chief financial officer. She will also oversee business operations within the division, drawing on her 25 years of experience across various areas of Northwestern’s operations to guide the University’s financial functions towards excellence.
