The Arizona Coyotes General Manager, Bill Armstrong, announced on Friday that the NHL team will be relocating to Salt Lake City starting next season. This move comes after the team has utilized their third venue since coming from Winnipeg in 1996. The Coyotes currently play their home games at Arizona State University in Tempe but will be moving to Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City plans to renovate the Delta Center to accommodate hockey games by next season, until a new downtown arena can be built for the Coyotes. An announcement regarding the sale of the team from Alex Meruelo to Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith could come after the regular season finale next week. The Coyotes are currently in 7th place in the Central Division with a record of 34-40-5 and have been eliminated from playoff contention.
