Kirk Cousins has made the decision to switch jersey numbers as he joins the Atlanta Falcons. The team announced today that Cousins will now wear the No. 18 jersey during his time in Atlanta. There had been speculation that Cousins might try to purchase the No. 8 jersey from tight end Kyle Pitts, who currently wears it for the Falcons. However, negotiations fell through, possibly due to the cost of unsold Pitts jerseys that would need to be bought in order to approve the number change by the league.

Throughout his career, Cousins has worn different jersey numbers. He wore No. 8 in both Minnesota and Washington, as well as during his college years at Michigan State and in high school. However, his time in Atlanta will see him sporting a new number.

Interestingly, Cousins actually began his NFL career wearing No. 12 during his first two seasons in Washington before making a switch to No. 8 in his third season. Now, with the move to Atlanta, he will be adding a third jersey number to his NFL career.
