The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is pleased to announce that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) has been granted affiliate membership in the sports of men’s soccer and women’s swimming & diving. This decision was made by the conference’s Board of Directors, and UTRGV will begin competing as an affiliate member in both sports starting with the 2024-25 academic year.

UTRGV has a long history of success in men’s soccer, having been a member of the WAC since the program was re-established in 2015. The men’s soccer program at UTRGV will continue to compete as an affiliate during the 2024-25 academic year, building on their strong tradition within the conference. Additionally, UTRGV Athletics is launching its women’s swimming & diving program in the fall of 2024. The team will compete at the City of Pharr Natatorium, a state-of-the-art venue that has previously hosted the 2023 and 2024 WAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

This new venture for UTRGV marks an exciting expansion of their athletic programs within the WAC. The university’s commitment to these sports demonstrates their dedication to providing competitive opportunities for their student-athletes. The affiliation as a member in both men’s soccer and women’s swimming & diving further solidifies UTRGV’s role within the WAC, as they continue to build on their successes and strive for excellence in college athletics.
