Stephen Ames, who hails from Trinidad and Tobago but has become a naturalized Canadian citizen, celebrated his 60th birthday in style by winning the Mitsubishi Electric Classic. This marked his eighth victory on the PGA Tour Champions and his third consecutive win at TPC Sugarloaf.

Ames started the final round just one stroke behind Paul Broadhurst, an Englishman who is 58 years old. However, Ames had two eagles in his last round, which helped him to secure the title defense of his record third victory in the event with a total of 14-under 202. Broadhurst had to settle for a tie for second place with Doug Barron after shooting a 72 in the final round. K.J. Choi and Steven Alker finished at 9 under par, trailing Ames by five strokes.

Despite starting strong with an opening birdie on the par-4 first hole, Ames had some ups and downs throughout the round. He eagled the par-5 sixth and the par-4 13th, but also had bogeys on the par-4 15th and 17th holes. With a final birdie on the par-5 18th hole, he secured a four-stroke victory and successfully defended his title at TPC Sugarloaf.

Ames’ resurgence on the PGA Tour Champions has been nothing short of impressive. In his last 29 starts, he has won six times, establishing himself as a strong competitor on the over-50 tour. His previous wins include two victories in his first 175 starts and another at TPC Sugarloaf in 2017. Overall, Ames’ career on the PGA Tour Champions has been marked by consistency and success, making him one of the top players on this prestigious tour today.
