In an effort to promote economic development and support the growth of the county’s workforce, Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne announced the establishment of the Cuyahoga County Office of Small Business on May 3. This new office, which falls under the Department of Development, will provide personalized assistance and guidance to small business owners to help them navigate the business landscape effectively.

According to Ronayne, the success of small businesses is crucial for the growth of the county’s workforce and economy. The Office of Small Business was created to make it easier for small business owners to access resources and strengthen their networks. By attracting more entrepreneurs to the area and tapping into the opportunities available in cities and neighborhoods, the office seeks to promote economic development.

Cuyahoga County is home to over 30,000 small businesses, employing nearly 300,000 residents with an annual payroll of close to $18 billion. The Office of Small Business will facilitate connections and collaborations between businesses and various stakeholders in the county, including local chambers of commerce, trade associations, and industry leaders. It will serve as a one-stop shop for business owners to grow their networks, expand their workforce, explore financial opportunities, access educational services, and benefit from peer support resources.

Vaughn Johnson, deputy director for economic development, noted the critical need for resources dedicated to supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs within the Department of Development. The Office of Small Business will take a proactive approach to improving initiatives that enhance the experience of owning a small business in Cuyahoga County. By working with key organizations, the office will connect new businesses to vital resources such as capital opportunities
