The United States Postal Service has announced that it will be keeping its Buffalo Processing and Distribution Center operations unchanged. After a recent review, the USPS has decided to maintain its existing originating processing operations at the facility, with no alterations made. This means that business mail entry, post office services, branch retail services, and delivery services will continue as usual, with no changes in service levels.
The decision comes after concerns were raised following a postal service review that suggested outgoing mail processing operations should be moved from the William Street facility to a location on Lyell Avenue in Rochester. This proposal faced criticism from local, state, and federal leaders who argued that it would have a negative impact on services in Buffalo, particularly affecting small businesses in the area.
Initially, the plan was to keep the William Street facility operating as a local processing center and retain all career employees. However, there were concerns about non-career employees being cut and workers being forced to transfer to the new location in Rochester. Ultimately, the USPS decided to maintain operations at the Buffalo facility to avoid disrupting services and address the concerns raised by community leaders and stakeholders.
