Ukraine is facing an aggressive Russia, and Europe’s weakness is emboldening Putin to act even more aggressively. In response, the EU has increased its arms supplies to Ukraine in a bid to counter Russian aggression. During an interview with Adnkronos, Polish ambassador to Rome Anna Maria Anders discussed the possibility of a war between Russia and NATO countries and the risk of escalation in Ukraine following an attack in Moscow.

As the daughter of General Wladyslaw Albert Anders, who famously won at the Battle of Cassino during World War II, Anders emphasized the importance of understanding Russia’s history and patterns of behavior. She believes that Europe should prepare for potential conflict with Russia by increasing defense investments, supplying more arms to Ukraine, countering Russian disinformation tactics and bolstering defense capabilities.

Anders also highlighted that concessions to Russia will not solve issues in Ukraine but will only encourage Putin to further aggression. The Latin proverb “Si vis pacem, para bellum” was cited by Anders as a reminder that if Europe wants peace it should be prepared for war. She believes that Europe needs a strong deterrent against Moscow and advocates for extensive aid to Ukraine at this time.

While addressing Emmanuel Macron’s proposition of sending troops to Ukraine, Anders clarified that Poland has not decided on deploying troops there yet. Instead, she emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine’s military efforts and preparing for potential changes in circumstances.
