The Llao Llao Forum in Bariloche, set against a stunning backdrop of mountains and lakes, is focusing on the theme of global uncertainty for its 2019 edition. While the event has dedicated significant resources to this topic, it also features a special panel on start-ups. Three start-ups featured in this panel have a strong connection with the Argentine scientific system from public universities and Conicet, despite common perceptions of inefficiency and budget cuts in these areas by the Casa Rosada.

Among these start-ups is OncoPrecision, founded by Tarek Ali Zake in collaboration with scientists from the National University of Córdoba. Using artificial intelligence, OncoPrecision can accurately assess cancer treatment progress and create personalized treatments for patients. Another start-up, Kilimo, introduced a system similar to green bonds to conserve water by supporting producers and city dwellers in sustainable irrigation practices. Lastly, Beeflow expanded bee pollination management worldwide, improving agricultural productivity and meeting food demand through advanced pollination services.

These start-ups showcase how innovation and technology are transforming sectors such as health, environment, and agriculture. By collaborating with Argentine scientists, they embody an exciting symbiosis between the public and private sectors. The three start-ups were supported by the GRIDX fund, which connects research scientists with business-oriented entrepreneurs. Miguel Galuccio, president of Vista oil company, Graciela Ciccio from Insud Holdings Company Ltd., founder of Sigman family companies; New York State; and founders of companies like Amazon were key contributors to the fund’s success.
