Ho Chi Minh City is set to become a hub for technological innovation with the establishment of the Center for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (C4IR) in the city’s High-Tech Park. The announcement was made by Mr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Head of the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park, at a conference on April 25.
The C4IR is part of a cooperation agreement between Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Chairman Phan Van Mai and leaders of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, signed on January 16. This will be the second center in Southeast Asia after Malaysia in 2023 and the 19th in the world.
Under the autonomy of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, C4IR will operate with a leadership team, operations division, and support sector. The leadership team includes representatives from government, businesses and schools, with leading businesses playing a key role in implementing innovation initiatives. The operations division will pilot new technology products and engage with stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem while the support sector will build community, provide financial support and facilitate knowledge sharing activities.
The project to define the operating model of C4IR is currently in its completion stage and is expected to be submitted to Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee for approval by May end. A launch date has been planned for September during the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum event.
