Vietnam is quickly becoming a global hub for the human resources needed in the semiconductor chip value chain. With its growing number of highly skilled workers, the country is attracting investment and research in this field. As such, training programs are crucial to meet the demand for skilled workers in this industry.

This was a topic of discussion at the conference “Vietnam’s semiconductor human resources in the global supply chain,” organized by Phenikaa Group, Phenikaa University, and Synopsys Corporation with Arizona State University on May 4. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized the importance of highly skilled labor in driving competitiveness and innovation in the semiconductor industry.

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung outlined Vietnam’s national strategy to build itself as a global hub for semiconductor industry human resources, attracting investment in research, design, production, packaging, and testing of semiconductor chips. Currently, Vietnam has a workforce of around 600,000 to 700,000 information technology engineers who can be retrained for the semiconductor industry within six to twelve months.

To enhance training facilities and resources in Vietnam, Minister Hung stressed the importance of cooperation between businesses, universities, and government institutions. He also highlighted that developing a strong foundation for the semiconductor industry will require ongoing collaboration between these three groups.

Phenikaa Group and Phenikaa University are actively involved in training microchip human resources in Vietnam with plans to train thousands of engineers and technicians by 2030. The government is focused on developing a Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy and Human Resource Training Project that aligns with international standards to foster innovation and production in this field.

Overall, it is clear that developing skilled human resources is essential for Vietnam’s success as a global hub for semiconductor industry human resources. By working together towards this goal
