The Giants have made a strategic move to free up more salary cap space by restructuring the contract of defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the team converted $10 million of Lawrence’s base salary into a signing bonus. This move allowed the Giants to push three-quarters of that money into future years, freeing up $7.5 million in cap space. Lawrence had signed a four-year extension with the team in May of last year, and as a result of the restructuring, his 2024 cap number will be just under $15 million.

With Lawrence now signed through 2027, his cap hits will exceed $23 million each year, although the team may consider further restructuring to adjust those numbers. Last season, Lawrence earned second-team All-Pro honors after recording 53 tackles and 4.5 sacks for the Giants.
