In December, Melissa Frost presented at the American Geophysical Union Conference in San Francisco, California. The conference is highly regarded and Frost shared her insights from her participation in the Research Experience for Teachers Program at the Kellogg Biological Station Long-Term Ecological Research Program at Michigan State University. Her contributions to scientific research and education not only enhanced her teaching practice but also enriched the learning experiences of her students.

Frost’s dedication to her students and innovative approaches to teaching have earned her recognition as the Michigan Department of Education’s “Region 7 Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025”. She exemplifies qualities that are celebrated by the Teacher of the Year program organized by the Michigan Department of Education, which aims to recognize outstanding educators who demonstrate exemplary dedication to their profession and make significant contributions to the field of education. As Regional Teacher of the Year, Frost will serve as a member of the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council where she will advocate for teacher voices and enhance Michigan’s public education system.

In addition to being Regional Teacher of the Year, Frost is also involved with two initiatives that provide outdoor education opportunities for elementary students: Buchanan High School’s Habitat Restoration project and Buchanan Community Schools Farm Committee. Through these initiatives, she helps ensure that over 600 elementary students receive hands-on learning experiences that foster a love for science and nature.
